Green Compressed Hubei Tea Brick Small 500g

£21.85

 Green Tea Brick (Small) 500g

A mild character with a smooth finish

Traditionally tea was compressed into bricks for easy storage and transportation on horse or camel, each having individual marks of regions or makers. Prior to the Russian invasion of Tibet before World War II, it was reported that in preparation for the conquest, the invaders bought up all of the available tea bricks. They felt that by controlling the tea supply, they would be able to also control the people who relied heavily on it.

China/ Hubei Province

Although tea bricks are less commonly produced in modern times, many post-fermented teas, such as Pu-erh, are still commonly found in bricks, discs, and other pressed forms. Tea bricks can be made into beverages or eaten as food, and were also used in the past as a form of currency. Due to their density and toughness tea bricks were consumed after they were broken into small pieces and boiled while traditionally in the Tang Dynasty, they were consumed after they had been ground to a fine powder. If proper brewing techniques are used a great cup of tea can be produced. These Hubei tea bricks are very tactile and always create lots of interest in displays, an unusual gift for any tea enthusiast.

Beautiful tea brick

Beautifully decorated compressed brick of tea. Perfectly delivered, no damage at all. Will be used to describe a history of tea drinking in England and is a perfect prop.

Love this! Would be nice if there could be some more ‘history’ attached if possible.

very nice. Difficult to chop up from the brick, so I have ordered a taster of the other loose teas to see what else there is. Came really quickly
