Earl Grey
Not only does our naturally flavoured Earl Grey look fantastic, but strict quality measures ensure great taste and consistency is unrivalled.
We have only chosen high altitude grown teas from the top three tea-growing regions of Sri Lanka for our base tea. Some of the finest black tea in the world is produced in the central highland area. The districts of Nuwara Eliya, Dimbula and Uva produce flavorful teas that have that classic “ Ceylon” character, a sweet floral bouquet with pleasant mild astringency and a vibrant copper cup colour. Having different regional peak periods allows us access to the best for our tea blends at various times during the year, ensuring consistent top quality and freshness.
Sri Lanka
Traditionally Earl Grey was a blend of Chinese and Indian teas scented with oil from the citrus bergamot fruit (a type of orange). A common tale tells how a British diplomat on a mission to China saved the life of a Mandarin. As a gift of gratitude, the diplomat was given the recipe for this flavoured tea. Upon his return to Britain, the diplomat presented the tea to the Prime Minister of the day, Earl Grey.
We insist on using only natural flavouring oils, the high-quality tea tastes good and natural flavours do not overpower the great taste of the high grown Ceylon tea, also natural flavours leave no aftertaste giving the tea a clean and true character. (The practice for some making flavoured tea is to use overpowering artificial flavours, which may be an indicator of a covered up lower quality tea). Natural flavours tend to be more delicate and subtle, most find this a refreshing change and is one of the desired qualities of our naturally flavoured teas.
A wonderfully balanced tea that is an absolute must-try for all Earl Grey lovers.
